My name is Jack Laborde, and I’m a senior software engineer. I am based out of Lafayette, Louisiana where I live with my wife Madison and our small goldendoodle Charli.

What is the most rewarding part of your role?

I would say the most rewarding part of my role is being able to build and fix things. I love creating new works and fixing older ones, so I’m in it for the love of the game, essentially. I love seeing work that I do come to life and get utilized by others, and I love working with a fantastic team like the one here at FlexPoint.

How long have you been at FlexPoint?

I’ve been here about 9 months now, and will make a year mid-October.

What does a work day look like for you?

A typical workday involves me walking over to my office, parking myself at my desk, plug in my screens, and work away at the day’s project.

What’s your favorite part of working at FlexPoint?

The first thing I would say is the work itself – the project I’m working on has been a blast to build and I love constantly improving on it with new techniques, which comes from my second, and more important point, is the mentorship I receive here. I have learned many valuable lessons here already than I have in really my whole career, and it’s nice to have a team that helps you grow as an engineer and a person.

What’s something you’ve learned either from a fellow team member or naturally from your time at FlexPoint?

I feel like I’ve learned, and am still learning, how to truly think like, act like, and just be an engineer. Once again, I’ve gotten a great amount of mentorship from the team in pretty much all aspects of my work.

What are you most proud of?

The upcoming self-helper project is what I’m most proud of – it's been my biggest project and I’ve learned so much about it, and hopefully it can make ours and support’s lives easier!

What are some hobbies or initiatives you are dedicated to?

I have a lot of different hobbies. I’m part outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish; I’m part sports guy, having played college lacrosse at UL-Lafayette and coaching at that level at Hardin-Simmons University, and now am (trying) to become an avid golfer; Finally, I love to game, particularly strategy games. As for initiatives, they’re usually related to my hobbies, i.e. donating to Hunters for the Hungry or the Unbound charity, or promoting lacrosse especially in the south.

Some of your favorite things?

Also it's hard to pick favorites, but book-wise anything Tom Clancy (especially Hunt for Red October).
