Meet Grigoriy, our Senior Software Engineer

My name is Grigoriy Gurariy, I'm a Senior Software Engineer at FlexPoint. I’m based in Mequon, WI, about ten miles north of Milwaukee. And I’m happily married to my wife, Ashley (no kids or pets yet, but we’re enjoying the peace and quiet while it lasts!).

What is the most rewarding part of your role?

For me, it’s all about creating useful things that people actually use. There’s nothing more rewarding than building a feature, seeing it make someone’s life easier, and knowing it contributes to the company’s overall success. That sense of impact is what keeps me excited about the work.

How long have you been here?

1 year and 4 months (Started on July 22nd, 2024).

What does a work day look like for you?

No two days look exactly the same, which is pretty typical in a startup. Roughly speaking, my day starts with reviewing new support tickets to make sure they’re clearly documented and then triaging and delegating them. From there, I split my time between:

1. Writing and reviewing code

2. Supporting other developers through code reviews.

3. Helping on the DevOps side, including working with Alex on production and deployments.

It’s a mix of building, improving, and keeping things running smoothly!

What’s your favorite part of working at FlexPoint?

The culture, hands down. Everyone at FlexPoint is easygoing, approachable, and genuinely supportive. I never feel like I’m bothering someone when I reach out with a question or need help. We work hard, but we also remember to have fun and enjoy the process.

What’s something you’ve learned at FlexPoint?

Accounting has always been my Achilles’ heel, but after starting at FlexPoint, I was given a great presentation on accounting concepts tailored for developers. It helped connect the dots between the code we write and the financial side of the business, which gave me a much better understanding of the “why” behind certain features and workflows.

What are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of working under a tight timeline to help migrate our ACH payment processor from Orum to Dwolla. It was a complex project with a lot of moving pieces, and seeing it go live successfully and knowing it’s a critical part of how we move money was really satisfying.

What are hobbies or initiatives you are dedicated to?

I find a lot of fulfillment in doing yard work and spending time outdoors. It’s oddly satisfying to keep the curb appeal looking sharp. I also enjoy trying out different cuisines and checking out new breweries whenever I can. On the more relaxing side, I like watching sports, and when the opportunity comes up, I love traveling, whether it’s exploring a new city or just getting a change of scenery for a few days.

Some of your favorite things?

Favorite Food: Lamb Chops

Destination: Hawaii

Movie: “Gladiator”

Book(s): “Ready Player One” & “Project Hail Mary”
